Residential Project

Mazul's design combines craftsmanship, authenticity, and functionality. This Oaxaca coastal retreat blends local materials and techniques with a clever layout, creating a sense of space and comfort in a compact setting.

This project was born from a deep understanding with clients who appreciate art and attention to detail. Our aim was to craft a serene atmosphere using materials and bespoke pieces tailored to the context. We selected local woods like parota and huanacaxtle for their durability in humid environments and warm, rich grain.

Natural fibers like bejuco and henequén were integrated into furniture and accessories to add organic textures. Fabrics, mostly linen and cotton treated for outdoor use, provide resistance without losing softness. Artisanal paste finishes, made from regional soils, create chromatic continuity with the surroundings.

Each piece of furniture was designed or adapted to fit, considering the space's particularities. Installation presented logistical challenges, especially due to the project's remote location. Large-format pieces required a crane for placement. Detailed planning was crucial to ensure all elements arrived complete and without issues, as access to the development is limited, and any adjustments had to be resolved on-site.

Collaboration with various teams enriched the process. Terracota Taller, Casa Belart, Contorno, Ensamble Artesano, Casa Quieta, Tana Karei, David Pompa, Colorindio, and Balsa contributed to the design of furniture and finishes, while Salmiana's landscaping transformed the outdoor areas into fresh and livable spaces.

The project faced two key challenges: coordinating between Oaxaca and Mexico City teams remotely, and creating custom solutions for specific spaces. We overcame the first by implementing regular updates and production tweaks to maintain design integrity. For the second, we designed and prototyped a custom TV cabinet, as none existed on the market, until it met the project's precise functional and aesthetic needs.

The design harmonizes with the site's natural essence, featuring a neutral color palette, regional materials, and a layout that seamlessly connects with the surroundings.
