Public desing

A collaboration with the museum
Museo Casa Estudio Diego Rivera y Frida Kahlo

To design for a space like the Museo Casa Estudio Diego Rivera y Frida Kahlo means approaching it with respect, intervening with subtlety, and creating for those who move through it and keep it alive every day.

More than a design exercise, this project was an opportunity to engage in dialogue with a place that holds the presence of two essential figures in Mexico’s cultural history. Every decision was made with the conviction that design, even in its quietest form, can support, organize, and care for spaces that are part of our collective memory.

Design that Serves the Public

This intervention marks the first time that Comité de Proyectos brings its practice into the public realm. The commission: to design and fabricate three specific pieces for the museum entrance—a ticket booth, a set of lockers, and a security module—each responding to real operational needs of the site.

These pieces are not meant to stand out or impose themselves; they were conceived to integrate with clarity and discretion, bringing order, comfort, and functionality both to those who visit the museum and to those who inhabit it every day.

Attending to People, Honoring the Space

From the very beginning, the project focused not only on the visitor experience but also on the conditions of those who work in the museum every day. Improving circulation, yes—but also the dignity and functionality of the workspaces.

Designing for a place where Diego and Frida once lived and created was, for us, a gesture of care—a way of accompanying history without altering it. This project allowed us to explore design as a form of listening, a tool to strengthen the relationship between people and the spaces they share.
